Succeeding in lowering your cholesterol is a great achievement, but maintaining it is just as important.
It is essential that you keep following the healthy living advice your doctor, nurse or pharmacist (local chemist) has given you, which may include healthy eating, exercising, watching your weight and drinking in moderation.
If you have been prescribed cholesterol-lowering medication, your doctor will probably want to review your progress regularly. This way, he or she will be able to see whether the treatment/s you have been prescribed is/are the best one/s for you. You may also have to have more blood tests to make sure that your cholesterol level is satisfactory. Home-testing kits are available, but these may not be accurate enough to check that your cholesterol has reached the desired level.
To maintain your lower cholesterol level, it is important that you keep taking your treatment/s as your doctor has prescribed, even if you feel well, as your cholesterol can quickly rise again if you stop taking your treatment. If you have any questions, or if you are thinking about not taking your cholesterol medicine, please speak to your doctor.
Remember When you find a medicine that works for you, keep on taking it exactly as your doctor has prescribed. For more information, download your FREE ChoLESSterol™ booklet here.
