Staying on target

Reaching your cholesterol target is a great achievement, but maintaining it is just as important. It is essential that you keep following the healthy-living advice your doctor, nurse or pharmacist (local chemist) has given you, which may include healthy eating, exercising, watching your weight, drinking only in moderation and stopping smoking.

If you have been prescribed cholesterol-lowering medication, your doctor will probably want to review your progress regularly. This way, he or she will be able to see whether the treatment/s you have been prescribed is/are the best one/s for you. You may also need to have more blood tests to make sure that your cholesterol level is satisfactory. Home-testing kits are available, but you should speak to your doctor first about whether or not this would be appropriate for you.

To maintain your cholesterol target, it is important that you keep taking your treatment/s as your doctor has prescribed, even if you feel well. If you have any questions, or if you are thinking about not taking your cholesterol medication, please speak to your doctor.
